Legacies
Introduction
Each year the York Blind and Partially Sighted Society could benefit from gifts left by you in your will, helping substantially with the total annual cost of providing the services we make available to all our members. Methods
There are two main ways you can leave a legacy in your will to the York Blind and Partially Sighted Society :
- Specific Legacy:This designates a sum of money to be left to our society. If you wish to assign money for a particular use. it would be beneficial to us if you asked your solicitor to speak to us first so we can inform them where the money is needed most urgently.
- Residuary Legacy:This is a popular method as it gives people peace of mind in that they have provided for loved ones in the first instance. Then, the remainder, whether large or small, goes to the charity or charities of your choice.
Taxation and legal
It is best to have a solicitor draw up a will to ensure that it is valid and complies with all the necessary requirements. You can save money in the long run by leaving your estate in the most tax-efficient way for your beneficiaries. The society is a registered charity so its legacies do not attract Inheritance Tax.
Furthermore, assets, such as stocks, shares and property can be transferred to the society free of any Capital Gains Tax.
If you decide to leave a legacy in your will either as a Specific Legacy or a Residuary Legacy, please ensure your solicitor states the name of the York Blind and Partially Sighted Society in full, or your donation may go elsewhere.
